This year, Rini Singhi, the creative director-founder of Dhoop Magazine has collaborated with Chef Keertida Phadke to bring out a calendar. It features 12 food-centric illustrations such as a vegetable market, Indian kitchen counter, spice box, etc. that are accompanied by encouraging affirmations. “The calendar is aimed at encouraging people to cook and eat seasonally,” says Rini. “In addition to these artworks on one side, Keertida has shared two seasonal recipes such as bhogichi bhaaji, matar usal, etc. for every month to make the most of the stunning produce that each month offers, most joyfully,” says Rini, adding how, after two editions of their annual magazine, the team wanted to “start working with more people who understand the interdisciplinary nature of food and create meaningful content”.

Calendars themed on the auto rickshaw, Indian Railways, pets, and ‘Raga Rebels’ comprise artist Bhavya Desai’s five calendar launches for 2025, but the one closest to his heart is The House of Asuras. ‘A lighthearted, relatable take on household chores, each asura is tasked with a different chore, and through their unique “weaknesses,” how they bring humour to mundane tasks’ is what the Chennai-based artist — who plans to expand The House of Asuras range to include planners and productivity notebooks next year — describes the theme.

For the coming year, Vijayalakshmi Palaniappan has chosen to design an art calendar themed on Monuments of India. Highlighting iconic sites from across the country, the Chennai-based artist’s digital illustrations are crafted in a pen-and-ink style, filled with soft watercolour. In Stories in Stone, artist Preeti Bhatnagar has spotlighted architectural heritage buildings’ watercolour paintings that she has made through the year. “As I am based in Stockholm, I of-late found my passion painting the beautiful jharokhas, jaalis, and arched openings.   During the dark and snowy winters here the light-filled jharokhas and summer arches serve as a therapeutic escape, transporting me to the warmth and vibrancy of my roots,” says the architect by day who runs Samanilai, a page dedicated to her artwork.

Tryst with Tamil @ The Art Brew

The Chennai-based brand’s SOL 2025 desktop calendar celebrates Nature and the Fractals of Greenery that Embody life. Co-founder Avanti Natarajan says the hand-illustrated calendar “zooms deep into the minuscule parts that compose the thottam (house): the banana plants, the orchard of mango and pomegranate trees, the rose blooms, starry orange kanakambaram, eye catching pavazhamalli flowers and the infinite botanical poetry that make it an oasis in a home”. It features 12 Tamil words hand-picked by writer-lyricist Madan Karky, and the English word, the Tamil transliteration, and a quote appear on each page.

A desk calendar pegged on Madras by Anchored Hues

This year, artist Srishti Prabakar has launched two calendars: a wall calendar themed on doors around the world, and a desk calendar pegged on Madras. “The former is a series of 12 painted doors as a wall/desk calendar with a set of door postcards, and the latter is a city-based calendar I have designed for the third time in a row,” she says, adding how she picked the not-so-popular stories and spots from 1960s-80s Madras to put the calendar together. “It reflects on simple spots, and is an extension to my own daily Thumbnails of the City series done in 2021,” says Shrishti who also has a daily undated planner that is ADHD-friendly. “It’s tried and tested among other neurodivergent peers.”
